Minnesota Lightning Announce 2009 Regular Season Schedule
Minnesota Lightning News Release
Saint Paul, Minn. (January 29, 2009) -- The Minnesota Lightning women's soccer team announced its 2009 regular season schedule today as it looks to get back into the playoff race after narrowly missing out for the first time in its history last season. The Minnesota Lightning comes into its fourth season in existence and will move its home games to the National Sports Center in Blaine, Minn.

The Lightning will open up their 12 game regular season on May 29 at the NSC against W-League finalist FC Indiana.

“We are very excited about the Lightning season this year,” said Thunder and Lightning general manager Djorn Buchholz. “We will be announcing the new team in the next few weeks and we feel they have a good chance to go far this year. The tryouts in December saw a great deal of talent come through and new and exciting players are contacting us every day.”

The Lightning will move their games to the NSC this year after spending the first three seasons playing at Elizabeth Lyle Robbie Stadium at the University of Minnesota. Thunder and Lightning management are still contemplating playing one or two matches at Robbie Stadium in 2009. Two of the matches, May 31 and June 27, will be double headers with the Thunder at the NSC.

Flexible season ticket packages and discounted group tickets to all 6 home games are currently on sale at www.mnthunder.com or by calling the Thunder and Lightning office at (651) 917-TEAM (8326). Single-game tickets will go on sale in the spring. Adults ages 19 and over can purchase flex season tickets for $42 and youth ages 3-18 can purchase the Shield Pass for $20 that will get them into all Lightning, Thunder, and Rochester Thunder games in 2009.
