Kansas City BBQ for the 3rd Round USOC
By Lightning Striker and the Diving Headers
Thunder host Major League Soccer's Kansas City Wizards in the Third Round of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup at the National Sports Center. To prime the fanatico, I will be preparing some Kansas City style BBQ, traditionally served with cole slaw and baked beans.
Kansas City Style BBQ

A squad of almost a dozen Thunder supporters visited KC for their MLS opener where we enjoyed Oklahoma Joe's BBQ Ribs and their famous Z-Man Sandwich.

Kansas City BBQ Rub:
Ingredients:

    * 1/2 cup brown sugar
    * 1/4 cup paprika
    * 1 tablespoon black pepper
    * 1 tablespoon salt
    * 1 tablespoon chili powder
    * 1 tablespoon garlic powder
    * 1 tablespoon onion powder
    * 1 teaspoon cayenne

Preparation:
Combine all ingredients together and transfer to an air tight container.

Kansas City BBQ Sauce
Ingredients:

    * 1 1/4 cup ketchup
    * 1 cup water
    * 1/3 cup cider vinegar
    * 1/4 cup dark brown sugar
    * 2 tablespoons molasses
    * 1 tablespoon onion powder
    * 1 tablespoon garlic powder
    * 1 tablespoon black pepper
    * 1 teaspoon celery salt
    * 1 teaspoon allspice
    * 1 teaspoon cayenne

Preparation:
Combine all ingredients in a saucepan over a medium heat. Stir constantly for 5 minutes. Reduce heat to low and simmer for 20 minutes, stirring occasionally. Sauce should be thick. Allow to cool. Store in an airtight container. Refrigerate.

Lightly sprinkle the ononis with salt, rub them between your palms a coupe of times and then rinse in cold water. They will become a little limp but also milder.

Andrew I am one of the Cauldron leaders, shoot me an email and I will give the lowdwon on all the game day activities.Power and Light is great if you are looking for multiple bars in one place. Our AO home bar, Johnny's Tavern, is down there and I highly recommend it. There are other great area's of the city to hang out in depending on what you are looking for. As Portlandian's are known for loving beer; I might suggest Westport, home to The Beer Kitchen, The Foundry, and McCoy's public House. All great beer establishments. The BBQ debate has been raging since the first BBQ joints opened. There are a few that are always at the top. Oklahoma Joes' One of Anthony Bordain's 13 place's to eat before you die. Jackstack in the freight house district A nicer dining environment with great BBQ. Arthur Bryant's The choice of Presidents, one of the oldest and best in town. Go to the 18th St. location not the one next to the stadium. Gates Multiple locations and I have never heard anyone complain. Try the mixplate. Finally One of our favorites in the Cauldron as its fan owned; Quicks BBQWe have great art museums in the Nelson- Atkins and Kemper Modern art museum. If you are a history buff don't leave without visiting the WWI museum. Its the only one in the country and its fantastic.Enjoy your trip and let me know if there is anything we can help with.
